Genuine carbon emission offsets are part of the solution. Particularly as some emissions may be unavoidable such as from air travel. Some critics oppose carbon offsets on the basis that they might remove the incentive to reduce your own emissions through efficiency gains and that some of the offsets themselves are of questionable permanency . But credible offsets are available such as those that meet the Gold Standard or Voluntary Carbon Scheme standards.
