How much will the sea rise?
As the earth’s surface warms, the oceans slowly absorb heat and therefore expand, causing the sea level to rise. Under various scenarios, sea levels are predicted to rise between 9 and 88 cm between 1990 and 2100. This will have consequences for low lying islands and coastal settlements throughout the world. Melting of non-polar glaciers is also expected to contribute to global warming.
