1Switch is the single largest national carbon reduction project undertaken by News Corp Australia to date. This new computer software encourages users to reduce energy use by switching their computers to sleep mode when they are not being used, and allows them to see the impact of their actions on their own energy efficiency.

Post being rolled out across News Corp Australia in early 2012 - in its first three weeks computer energy use fell by 11% as staff saw the immediate impact of their actions and chose to “power down”.

A drop of 25% in energy use has now been consistently achieved.
