We’re starting with one – ourselves. But while one company acting alone can make a difference, it’s the collective changes made by everyone that can really change the future of the planet. That’s why News Limited is committed to working with our industry, our people, our suppliers, our business partners and our communities towards a more environmentally sustainable future.
Leadership
Between now and 2015 we will:
- Communicate the Company’s sustainability goals and progress with best practice transparency to all stakeholders
- Create a culture of environmental leadership both internally and externally for the organisation
- Actively engage with our largest suppliers to help reduce environmental impacts
- Identify new opportunities to engage with readers, customers and advertisers
- Publicly report energy use and emissions
- Engage and educate our employees to reduce their environmental footprint
Taking leadership
Environmental leadership at News Limited means:
- Providing readers with more information about what they can do
- Community initiatives such as tree planting days
- Introducing employee recognition awards for contributions to improving the environment
- Drive responsibly campaigns
- Rejuvenation of site-based Environment Councils to elevate employee awareness and engagement
- Continuing to ensure that all newsprint is either forest or chain of custody certified
- Further pursuing whole-of-industry initiatives via the Publishers National Environment Bureau (PNEB) to maintain and grow strong recycling levels
- Playing an active part in industry and government environmental groups as regular contributors to roundtable discussions, reference groups and forums
