News Limited has for some time been pro-active in addressing the sustainable environment challenge.

On May 21, 1990, News Limited established its Environmental Secretariat, with a core function of advancing newspaper recycling and environmental awareness within Australia. The Environmental Secretariat put in place an environmental management system for the company, the core component being a national environmental audit program to produce detailed audit reports on our facilities.

To date, this program has led to the introduction of cleaner printing technologies, contributed to Australia's success as the world's leading recycler of newsprint and initiated ongoing environmental improvements to every News Limited business.

More recently, News Limited launched One Degree - an initiative to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across our business and raise awareness of climate change among our staff and the broader community. In broadening their reach to include carbon, the Environmental Secretariat evolved, becoming the Environment and Climate Change Department.
