Dr Karl helps News celebrate National Recycling Week

29/11/2013 4:22 AM

Australian scientist, author and radio/TV personality, Dr Karl Kruszelnicki launched National Recycling Week 2013 with our CEO, Julian Clarke, at News Corp Australia’s head office. The event aimed to inspire staff to think more about how and why they recycle at home and at work.

National Recycling Week is an Australian initiative founded in 1996 by Planet Ark to bring a national focus to the environmental benefits of recycling. Eighteen years later, the annual campaign continues to promote kerbside, industrial and community recycling initiatives.

Dr Karl’s presentation was streamed live nationally to reach as many staff as possible and inform us all about recycling and the issue of contamination in an entertaining forum. His inspirational presentation is still having an impact on our awareness of the small steps we can take on recycling to make a difference.

Throughout National Recycling Week, 1 Degree also aimed to engage staff by debunking myths about newspaper recycling, through posters and digital foyer screen slides. This strategy included showing the myths on every screen in the head office foyer for the entire week, starting office-wide discussion.
